1- Learning and Education:
● Ongoing improvement of Pharmacology course curriculum
● Ensure the quality of the education provided by the Department through measuring the satisfaction of students.
2- Scientific Research:
● Demonstrate the basic research skills in pharmacology
● Learn the principles of how to critically appraise pharmacology research
● The diligent endeavor to obtain research projects. The department has 30 research projects of which 23 have been completed or approved and seven under review
● Interest in scientific publication. The department has about 50 scientific papers published in peer-review international scientific journals
● Focusing on presenting the department's activities in the scientific forums where the members of the department won prizes and international fellowships and membership of international societies.
● Scientific foresight: The Department of Pharmacology conducted the first scientific research in the Faculty by conducting the first community study shortly after the establishment of the college (1431-2010). It was a survey of Helicobacter pylori in school students in cooperation with the Education Department in Rabigh governorate. Treatments were provided to all students diagnosed to have the infection. This research yielded two scientific papers.
● Establishment of the pharmacological research laboratory in the Faculty where the department purchased equipment and established a laboratory from the fund of the various projects of the department
● Involving the students in the various projects of the department to train them on scientific research and help them obtain the license of the Saudi Council for Health Specialties.
● Encouraging students to conduct research: the Department of Pharmacology is the only department in the college that gave large financial rewards for students from the various projects of the department.
● Link scientific research to student’s interests: The Department of Pharmacology conducted an awareness campaign for students at King Abdulaziz University, Rabigh branch on energy drinks and this resulted in a published scientific paper.
● Conduct scientific research appropriate to the industrial nature of Rabigh Governorate. The Department of Pharmacology in cooperation with the
Directorate of Health Affairs in Jeddah, conducted a study on the treatment methods used for Asthma patients in Rabigh General Hospital. This resulted in a published scientific paper.
3- Social responsibility:
● Awareness campaign for health promotion and disease prevention (as a part of the awareness campaigns conducted by the college in Rabigh).
● Conduction of an awareness campaign for students at King Abdulaziz University, Rabigh branch on energy drinks.
● Conduction of a study on the treatment methods used for Asthma patients in Rabigh General Hospital due to the industrial nature of Rabigh city.
4- Academic and administrative development:
● Integrate pharmacology in medical practice
● Practice evidence-based pharmacotherapy
● Membership of scientific and administrative committees in the college.
5- Partnerships in national and international cooperation:
● Teamwork and inter-professional collaboration.
● Training workshop for the Staff (as a part of the college initiative).
● Cooperation between the Department of Pharmacology and Colleges and Centers in the main campus of the University in Al-Sulaimaniya, such as the Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Science, and King Fahd Medical Research Center
● Cooperation between the Department of Pharmacology and the Directorate of Health Affairs in Jeddah, Rabigh General Hospital, and the Department of Education in Rabigh governorate.
● The members of the department participated in the organization of an international conference and the accreditation of an Arab medical college in addition to the membership of international societies.
6- Infrastructure:
● Establishing the classrooms and the research laboratories at high levels of quality.
